MHT CET 2025 Engineering Admissions Close with 1,66,746 Students – Female Participation Rises

MHT CET 2025 Engineering Admissions Close
Maharashtra has closed the MHT CET 2025 engineering admissions process. This year, a total of 1,66,746 students completed their admissions. The process was conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell.
Compared to last year, the numbers are slightly higher. This shows that interest in engineering courses is still strong in the state. Moreover, more students from rural and urban areas applied this year.
MHT CET 2025 Engineering Admissions: Rise in Female Participation
One of the most important highlights this year is the increase in female participation. Out of all admitted students, 37% are girls. This is higher than previous years, where the share was around 34% to 35%.
This rise is important because more girls are now choosing technical fields like Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and IoT.
Year | Total Admissions | Female Participation |
---|---|---|
2023 | 1,58,000+ | 34% |
2024 | 1,62,000+ | 35% |
2025 | 1,66,746 | 37% |
Thus, every year, more female students are joining engineering courses, showing a positive trend.
Popular Branches Among Students
When we look at the admissions closely, some branches stand out as the most popular choices.
-
Computer Science (CSE) remains the top choice.
-
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science have also seen a big jump in demand.
-
Electronics and Communication (ECE) is still a preferred branch.
-
Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering admissions are lower compared to earlier years.
Branch | Popularity (Approx %) |
---|---|
Computer Science Engineering | 40% |
AI & Data Science | 20% |
Electronics & Communication | 15% |
Mechanical Engineering | 10% |
Civil Engineering | 8% |
Others | 7% |
Thus, the trend clearly shows that students are now more focused on digital and tech-driven fields.
Impact of New-Age Courses
It is also clear that new-age courses like AI, Data Science, and IoT are driving more admissions. Many colleges have started special programs in these fields.
As technology grows, more companies are hiring in these areas. Therefore, students see better job opportunities and higher salaries in such courses.

Regional Trends in MHT CET 2025 Engineering Admissions
This year’s admission data also highlights clear regional differences. While Pune and Mumbai continued to lead with the maximum number of admissions, Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad, and Kolhapur also recorded significant numbers.
-
Pune had the highest number of admitted students with over 42,000. This is because the city hosts top institutes such as COEP and MIT-WPU.
-
Mumbai followed with around 38,000 students, as it has premier colleges like IIT Bombay, ICT, and VJTI.
-
Nagpur saw about 22,000 admissions, mainly due to VNIT and other private engineering colleges.
-
Nashik and Aurangabad together accounted for nearly 18,000 admissions, showing a growing demand in tier-2 cities.
-
Kolhapur and other districts contributed nearly 15,000 admissions, proving that rural participation is steadily increasing.
Therefore, the trend shows that metro cities still dominate, but smaller regions are catching up fast.
What This Means for Students
The MHT CET 2025 admission data shows two important things. First, more students are moving toward modern engineering branches that focus on technology and innovation. Second, the steady rise in female participation reflects better awareness and equal opportunities in the state.
For students, this means competition will increase in Computer Science and AI branches, while traditional branches may see fewer students.
The MHT CET 2025 engineering admissions closed with 1,66,746 students. Female participation rose to 37%, which is a strong step toward gender balance in technical fields. Moreover, Computer Science, AI, and Data Science continue to be the most popular choices among students.
Therefore, the data reflects changing career goals and the growing demand for digital skills. For aspirants, this is a clear sign that engineering in Maharashtra is moving toward a more modern and inclusive future.
