The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is conducting the NEET UG Counselling 2025 round 2 for students seeking admission to MBBS and BDS courses across India. Importantly, today marks the last day to complete round 2 choice filling and locking. If students do not submit and lock their preferences, they will not be considered for seat allotment in this round.

This round is very significant because many top colleges have released fresh vacancies after round 1. Moreover, more than 20,000 seats are available in this round. These include seats from AIIMS, JIPMER, central universities, deemed universities, and seats returned from state quotas. Thus, aspirants who missed out earlier now have a strong chance to secure admission.

NEET UG Counselling 2025 Round 2 Important Dates

Students must be careful about deadlines since missing even one step may lead to losing a seat. Therefore, it is advised to follow the official schedule given below:

Event Date
Round 2 Registration & Choice Filling August 28 – September 4, 2025
Choice Locking Deadline September 4, 2025
Seat Allotment Processing September 5 – 6, 2025
Round 2 Result September 7, 2025
Reporting to Colleges September 8 – 13, 2025

As we can see, the reporting period after seat allotment is very short. Hence, students should keep all their documents ready well in advance.

NEET UG Counselling 2025 Seat Matrix

The seat matrix for round 2 was published on the MCC portal. It gives students a clear idea of the number of seats available in each college and course. Because the matrix also shows vacancies in top institutes, it becomes an important tool to decide the order of preferences.

College / Institute Seats Available (Approx.)
AIIMS Delhi 45
AIIMS Bhopal 38
AIIMS Bhubaneswar 40
JIPMER Puducherry 35
Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi 50
BHU, Varanasi 42

In total, more than 20,000 MBBS and BDS seats are available across India. Additionally, many state quota seats have been returned to MCC, which further increases the chances for students.

How to Fill Choices in NEET UG Counselling 2025

Since today is the final day, students must complete the process carefully. At the same time, they should cross-check all preferences because once the choices are locked, no changes can be made.

The step-by-step process is as follows:

  1. First, visit the official website mcc.nic.in.

  2. Then, log in with your NEET UG roll number and password.

  3. Next, click on Choice Filling and Locking.

  4. After that, go through the seat matrix to check seat availability.

  5. Now, select your preferred colleges and courses from the list.

  6. Then, arrange them in the correct order of preference.

  7. Finally, click on Lock Choices and download a copy of the confirmation page.

Because mistakes are common in the choice-filling process, students must take extra care. Furthermore, they should compare previous year cut-offs with their own NEET score to make realistic choices.

The cut-off marks are always a deciding factor for admissions. Although round 1 had very high cut-offs, round 2 is expected to show slightly lower cut-offs because of seat withdrawals and reshuffling.

Institute Expected Cut-off (Round 2)
AIIMS Delhi 710+
JIPMER Puducherry 690+
Maulana Azad Medical College 690+
BHU, Varanasi 680+
State Government Medical Colleges 630–660

Therefore, students with scores slightly below the round 1 cut-off still have a chance in this round. Moreover, those who already have a seat may get an upgrade to a better college.

Why NEET Counselling 2025 Round 2 is Important

Round 2 plays a crucial role in the entire counselling process. Firstly, it includes seats that were not allotted in round 1. Secondly, it adds seats returned from state counselling. Thirdly, top institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER often have fresh vacancies due to withdrawals.

As a result, round 2 gives another opportunity to thousands of students. In addition, it offers upgrades to those who were already allotted a seat but are aiming for better options. Thus, it becomes a turning point in the counselling journey.

Furthermore, they must study the seat matrix, past cut-offs, and their NEET score carefully before locking choices.

The round 2 result will be declared on September 7, 2025, and students must report to their allotted colleges between September 8 to 13, 2025. Therefore, those who remain alert and prepare documents in advance will be at an advantage.
